 Commander in chief (ą¤øą¤°ą¤Øą„‹ą¤¬ą¤¤) Prataprao Gujar- Battle of Nessari and Umrani

1.Prataprao Gujar information :-

        Sarnobat prataprao Gujar (Kudtoji Gujar) was born in Bhosare village which is 40km away from Rajadhani Satara. He was very loyal and trustworthy commander in Maratha Empire. He was born on 14 feb in year 1615.

2.What was the battle of Prataprao Gujar ?

(A) Battle of umrani :

           Very less historical information is available of this personality in historical documents. As per records he won the first battle with Bahlol Khan near nessari. Sarnobat Prataprao and his force defeated the army of Bahlol Khan.

             After defeating he gave warning to Bahlol Khan not to invade Chatrapati shivaji Maharaj's territory again.  He promised to never look back at swaraj.Prataprao Gujar released Bahlol Khan and his army seizing his battle weapons. 

(B) Battle of Nessari:

            As expected Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was very angry to the decision of Prataprao Gujar. He wrote a letter and told the commander in chief not to show his face to him unless he finishes Bahlol Khan. After hearing those angry words of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj he was very upset and realized his mistake.

            As always Bahlol Khan was back to invade Swaraj with his army of 15000. Hearing this Prataprao decided to invade the enemy camp alone and not to risk the lives of the 1200 maratha soldiers with him. Those angry words of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj were hurting him badly. listening to this decision of their commander in chief 6 more Maratha soilders joined him to attack the enemy camp.

3.Who were the 7 Marathas ?

            Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was very anguished with hearing the news of Sarnobat Prataprao Gujar death. Prataprao Gujar had one daughter Jankibai. CHatrapati Shivaji Maharaj married his second son Rajaram to Jankibai. 
            
            Famous poet Kusumagraj wrote the poem 'vedyat marathe veer daudale sat' which describes all the incidents in it. Hambirrao Mothite was appointed as the new commander in chief of the Maratha Empire. 

            The battle of Sarnobat Prataprao Guajar will always be remembered as the most furious battle in Maratha history. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took the revenge of the deaths of Prataprao Gujar later.
